Guardian Safety Launches Innovative Abrasive Wheels Training eLearning Course with Practical Assessment

At Guardian Safety, we are committed to making workplaces safer by delivering training that is practical, engaging, and fully compliant. That’s why we’re proud to announce the launch of our brand-new Abrasive Wheels eLearning Course with Practical Assessment — developed entirely in-house and designed to meet both Irish and UK regulations.

This course blends flexible online learning with a unique video-based practical assessment, ensuring that learners don’t just understand the theory, but can also demonstrate safe abrasive wheel practices in real life.

Why We Created This Course

Working with abrasive wheels can be hazardous, and legislation in both Ireland and the UK requires employees to receive proper training. Traditionally, this training has only been delivered in classrooms. However, Guardian Safety recognised the growing demand for a flexible, accessible, and modern solution.

By developing this course from the ground up, we’ve created a learning experience that:

  • Meets all compliance requirements.
  • Provides learners with 24/7 access to training materials.
  • Allows participants to train at their own pace, from any location.
  • Still includes the vital hands-on practical assessment.

Step 1: Engaging Online Theory

The theory component is delivered through micro-learning videos, each followed by short quizzes to reinforce knowledge. By breaking down complex topics into simple lessons, learners can steadily build their understanding.

The modules cover:

  1. Introduction, Training, and The Law
  2. Injuries and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  3. Bonded and Specialist Abrasive Wheels
  4. Wheel Marking and Shapes
  5. Abrasive Wheel Equipment
  6. Storage and Transport

Because the course is online, learners have unlimited access to content — whether they are revising on-site, studying from home, or preparing for an audit.

Step 2: Practical Skills Assessment

Unlike many awareness-only courses, our programme goes a step further by including a practical video assessment. After completing the theory section, learners are asked to upload four short demonstration videos showing:

  • Checking the Machine
  • Checking the Disc
  • Attaching the Disc
  • Final Safety Check on the Machine and Disc Before Use

These videos are reviewed by one of our qualified instructors, ensuring participants can apply the theory in a safe, compliant, and competent manner.

Certification

After completing both the online theory and practical assessment, learners sit a final theory exam. Upon passing, they receive a Guardian Safety Certificate of Completion, which is fully compliant with both Irish and UK legislation.

Why Choose Guardian Safety’s Abrasive Wheels Training?

  • ✅ Developed in-house by industry experts
  • ✅ Covers both Irish and UK legislation
  • ✅ Blends online theory with practical video assessment

This course equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to work safely with abrasive wheels. It’s not just about ticking compliance boxes — it’s about creating safer workplaces.

The Future of Safety Training: Accessible, Practical, and Effective

Guardian Safety’s Abrasive Wheels eLearning Course represents a new standard in workplace training. By blending traditional safety principles with modern technology, we’re making compliance easier, faster, and more effective than ever before. Our approach not only saves organisations time and resources but also empowers learners to take ownership of their training.

The video-upload practical assessment is a game-changer in online training, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world application. Learners are no longer limited by geography, travel restrictions, or scheduling conflicts — they can complete their training when and where it suits them, while still demonstrating hands-on competence.

For employers, this means greater flexibility, reduced downtime, and the reassurance that staff are properly trained to handle abrasive wheels safely. For learners, it ensures confidence and competence in applying their skills on the job. This balance of accessibility and practical verification sets Guardian Safety apart.
