Abrasive Wheels Training Course

This abrasive wheels training course is legally required for all those who are involved in the purchase & selection, storage & handling, mounting, dressing, and use of abrasive wheels. This includes either fixed (e.g. Bench grinders or polishers) or portable (e.g. angle grinders) abrasive wheels.

How is the training deliverd

The training is delivered in person or online via a live virtual classroom.

Duration: 3.5 Hours

Time: 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Venue: Guardian Safety, Unit C1, Centrepoint Business Park, Oak Road, Dublin 12

The Abrasive Wheels Training Course can also be delivered privately at your premises at any time.

Aim

The aim of this abrasive wheels course is to teach employees the theory and practice of safe use of Abrasive Wheels to comply with the “Abrasive Wheels Regulations 1982” (SI 30 / 1982).

Abrasive Wheels Course Objectives

Upon completion of this training participants will be able to:-

  • Safely store and identify abrasive wheels
  • Be able to select the appropriate wheel use
  • Be able to inspect and recognize damaged wheels
  • Be able to mount an abrasive wheel
  • Understand the hazards and risks when using abrasive wheels

Abrasive Wheels Course Content

  • Abrasive wheels regulations
  • Identifying the hazards of working with abrasive wheels
  • Selecting the correct wheel for the job
  • Inspection & testing of abrasive wheels
  • Guarding of grinding and cutting operations
  • Dressing and truing of abrasive wheels
  • Functions of components, flanges, blotters, etc
  • Differences between grinding and cutting operations
  • Safe mounting of the abrasive wheel 

Certification

On successful completion of this course, participants will receive a certificate titled “Abrasive Wheels Training” which will be awarded by Guardian Safety. This Cert will be valid for 3 years.

We issue a digital certification & all certificates are kept on file and can be re-sent if misplaced.

Refresher training is recommended at intervals of not greater than 3 years

Prerequisets

All participants must be fluent in English.

If you have opted to attend online via Zoom you will need a PC, Laptop, Smartphone, etc. with audio/video & Internet. Ensure a browser is running correctly (Google Chrome, firefox, etc) or the Zoom Application is installed.

If you have opted to attend in person, registration will begin 15 minutes prior to the start time of the course.

Number of Participants Per Course

The maximum number of users per in-person course is 8

Guardian Safety Instructors

Guardian Safety is a QQI registered training provider and all instructors are fully qualified Abrasive Wheels Instructors, having achieved Level 6 in the National Framework of Qualifications. All course instructors hold a minimum of Train the Trainer qualification and are qualified safety practitioners holding a minimum of a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
